Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Yu Changming et al in 1974. The type section is located near Wangjiawan, 3 km southeast of the Ningqiang County seat in southern Shaanxi Province.

Synonym: (王家湾组)


Lithology and Thickness

It was dominated by yellow green, purplish red mudstone, silty mudstone and sandstone with its base starting from the appearance of the limestone beds and with its top ending at the disappearance of the marine red beds.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation rests conformably on the Cuijiagou Fm (not in Lexicon)

Upper contact

It keeps continuous sedimentation with the overlying Yangpowuan member of the Ningqiang Fm

Regional extent

It is 257 m in thickness and is widely exposed in the border areas between Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces.

Fossils

The fossils of the formation are in low differentiation, and include brachiopods Nucleospira, Nalivkinia, Striispirifer, Eospirifer, etc.; trilobite, and graptolite M. drepanoformis; conodonts Spathognathodus parahassi, S .guizhouensis, etc.
